In 1993 Primal Scream went to Memphis to make an album with Tom Dowd and the Muscle Shoals rhythm section, that album never saw the light of day , until now .....

Following the recent discovery of these tracks in a box lurking in Andrew Innes’ basement, this release is the original, and previously unreleased, studio recordings from Memphis of the tracks that eventually became their 1994 album ‘Give Out But Don’t Give Up’

Teaming up with legendary producer Tom Dowd and the Muscle Shoals rhythm section of David Hood (bass) and Roger Hawkins (drums) at Ardent Studios in Memphis, the resulting recordings from those classic sessions showcase the more country soul, rock’n’roll side to a band who continue to surprise. It’s Primal Scream as you’ve never heard them before.

Politics Of Living (Vinyl)

Politics Of Living (Vinyl)

by Kodaline
$49.99
POLITICS OF LIVING sees Kodaline team up with some of the hottest production and writing talent imaginable including hitmaker supreme Steve Mac (‘Shape Of You’ by Ed Sheeran), pop guru Johnny Coffer (Rag’N’Bone Man, Beyonce), Jonas Jeberg (Dizzee Rascal, Kylie Minogue), Stephen Harris (Miles Kane, Kaiser Chiefs) as well as long-time collaborator Johnny McDaid (‘What About Us’ by Pink).

Their new sound germinated during sessions with Kygo two years ago on the global hit ‘Raging’, and was quickly followed by last year’s radio mainstay ‘Brother’. Earlier this year saw the release of one of their best ever singles ‘Follow Your Fire’, a slice of powerhouse pop, which showed the band are ready to cement their place amongst the UK’s best in 2018. The band performed ‘Follow Your Fire’ on the One Show and Sunday Brunch – and it is just one of many stunning new tracks on an album set to propel them onto an even bigger stage than past glories.

“It's been a while since we released our second album”, says Steve Garrigan. “But we felt we needed to take the time to make sure this was the best album we could make! We are so happy with it and can't wait for people to hear it!”

Have You Considered Punk Music (Cream Vinyl)

Have You Considered Punk Music (Cream Vinyl)

by Self Defense Family
$34.99
With over thirty releases under their name, Self Defense Family continues to become increasingly more like an actual extended family. The band maintains its revolving-door policy of members, with a consistent group of players at its core and a larger collection of musicians filtering in and out based on availability and need. This collective-like format allows for the band’s productive output to go on unhindered and seemingly without end. As the group expands and shifts, with its individual personas diverging as well, the Family acts as a constant for its members, a place to return to and work towards a collective musical effort.

Their latest full-length, Have You Considered Punk Music, finds the group at their decidedly most self-reflective, taking on popular mythologies and personal narratives from a lifetime in music as the album’s overarching themes. For this release, the band gathered in a Brooklyn studio over the course of a week, working together with engineer Taylor Young, perhaps best known for his work with metal bands. Following their usual process-based mode of writing and recording almost simultaneously, the resulting LP features an array of songs that feel tightly composed while maintaining the loose, spirited air of improvisational music. With ten songs that reflect the diverse musical interests of its members and their mutual affinity for repetitive post-punk, psychedelic rock, and various film scores, Have You Considered Punk Music documents a band further refining their own particular invention.

MAGIC GONE (Vinyl)

MAGIC GONE (Vinyl)

by Petal
$39.99
RELEASE DATE: 15th June 2018

On June 15th, Pennsylvania’s Petal will release “Magic Gone”, a 10-song declaration of personal liberation and a look into the mind and soul of singer/songwriter Kiley Lotz.

Album opener “Better Than You” is a statement of intent for ‘Magic Gone’ with its raucous, anthemic energy and catharsis. “Tightrope” has a bubbling energy that culminates in Lotz’s soaring voice. Midway through the album, “Comfort” offers tender musicality, with Lotz’s voice vacillating from whispered incantations to impassioned pleas. NPR Music calls it “so heartbreaking” in the way it details how mental health can distort even the most sacred of relationships.

Petal will celebrate the release of “Magic Gone” by embarking on a 20+ date US tour this summer with Camp Cope.

The New York Times has celebrated Lotz as one of the “women making the best rock music today,” also complimenting the complicated heart in the centre of her music, adding that “the ache at the core of Petal’s music is its signature, rendered in a manner both searing and confident.” Pitchfork also has praised Petal for creating “beautifully aching songs that are illuminated by clear, direct voice and poetic lyrics,” while SPIN said that the deeply personal nature of Lotz’s songwriting “read[s] like vignettes, small windows peering into small slices of a lengthy timeline.”

HOW TO BE OKAY ALONE (Vinyl)

by Brent Cowles
$39.99

RELEASE DATE: 15th June 2018

Brent Cowles scribbled the phrase “How To Be Okay Alone” in a notebook one day, hoping he'd find the answer.

The question arose after a period of intense change: his teenage marriage had ended before he reached twenty, his first band had dissolved, and he was living out of his Chevy Tahoe, barely able to make ends meet. In the midst of these hardships, Brent went through a period of self-examination that resulted in his debut album “How To Be Okay Alone” - a raucous yet reflective 10-song collection that deals with love, loneliness and community.

Brent recorded “How To Be Okay Alone” with producer Joe Richmond (Tennis, Nathaniel Rateliff) over six days at a tiny Airbnb in an isolated stretch of Joshua Tree. The album is Brent's first solo full-length, following releases by his former band You, Me & Apollo.

Brent Cowles' debut EP “Cold Times” made fans of Paste and NPR, who chose him as a 2018 Slingshot artist and praised him for his "high-energy, thoughtful rock 'n' roll." He's toured and played shows with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Leon Bridges and Tennis, and he'll tour the US extensively in support of 'How To Be Okay Alone.

THE WORMS HEART (VINYL)

by The Shins

When James Mercer was recording his latest Shins LP Heart Worms as a creative exercise he decided to re-record the songs in the opposite way of the originals. Songs that were more rock and uptempo became more acoustic and slow, and songs that were acoustic and slow in tempo became more upbeat. They were flipped. The result of those sessions he calls, The Worms Heart.
Front man James Mercer was recently in Sydney and Melbourne at the start of 2017 to connect with media ahead of the album release. In contrast to 2012’s “Port Of Morrow”, which debuted at #3 on the US Billboard Top 200, #4 on the ARIA Album Chart and was nominated for a Best Alternative Album Grammy, “Heartworms” ushered in a return to the handmade.
“Heartworms” was, as always, entirely written by James Mercer. However, with the exception of ‘So Now What’ (produced by Richard Swift), “Heartworms” was the first Shins album to be self-produced by Mercer since “Oh, Inverted World” in 2001.

After two decades spent chiselling their unique, multi-genre infused sound, Dirty Heads have finally come into their own. Since the release of their 2008 debut Any Port in a Storm, the five-piece band has consistently experimented with their sunny style, leaning heavily on reggae fused with hip-hop cornerstones and scaling back for more acoustic fare, darting between extremes. But it’s with their fifth and self-titled album that the group has felt fully confident in a body of work, ready to bring their unique

Dirty Heads comes in the wake of their most successful releases to date, 2014’s Sound of Change, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums chart, and 2016’s self-titled album, which debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums, with both albums coming in  at #1 on the US Independent Albums chart.

With a solid fan-base already in place, Dirty Heads are focusing their sights on something they’ve been edging towards for years: breaking the mainstream. “We want our fans to love it, because we love what we do and we want to keep doing it,” says Watson. “But this album for me, I cannot poke a hole in any of it. From front to back, it’s really so phenomenal. I’m so confident in it that I want it to take Dirty Heads from the band that we are in America, worldwide.”

Lead single ‘Vacation’ has already made a splash in the US, hitting the #1 most added song on Alternative Radio and top 20 airplay on Alternative Radio, continuing to pick up fans globally along the way.

Motherblood (Vinyl)

by Grave Pleasures
$49.95
There are still those rare bands out there in the world that have a unique ability to combine macabre, mystifying rock with a more pop-oriented flare, a la early Bowie or early The Cure. Grave Pleasures are such a band that is equally suited for playing on a stadium stage, or in some Lynchian nightmare. It’s that duality and electrifying contradiction that makes their music so exhilarating.

Grave Pleasures’ debut album Dreamcrash was released in 2015. Risen from the ashes of the short-lived underground sensation Beastmilk, the band’s new record reached out to a wide and diverse audience. In the album’s wake, they brought the sound of their atomic punk to such high profile festivals as Hellfest, Sweden Rock, Reverence Festival, Rockavaria, Rock Im Revier. They toured Europe extensively and recorded a BBC live session for Daniel P Carter’s Radio 1 Rock Show. They followed up in 2016 with the Funeral Party 7” to critics and fans delight alike, and which revved up the buzz and expectations behind a new full-length record from the band.

Motherblood was recorded at Orgone Studios in the UK with Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Ulver, Paradise Lost) in March 2017. The studio was suitably situated on the site of an old WW2 coding bunker and brought with it the isolation of the bleak British countryside. The setting helped give the album an intense and smiling urgency that picks up where 80s UK bands such as Magazine, The Wire and Echo And The Bunnymen left off, but never stopping long enough to look back too much into the past.

They have been described as "A post-punk wet dream," or perhaps more honestly as "bat-shit lunatics," and their music is in a funereal world of its own. Motherblood is a truly danceable, pop-feast of raw, banging pleasure – in all its primitive, gothic tribalism.

To accompany the announcement, Superfood have also released a new track, 'Unstoppable'. “Bambino” is the band's first album through Dirty Hit and one that tears apart the rule book of what should be expected of a band in 2017, as the London via Birmingham two-piece fuse sample led dub to their technicolour indie.
