JOHNNY CASH: FOREVER WORDS (2LP VINYL)

RELEASE DATE: 6th April, 2018

Johnny Cash: Forever Words is a collaborative album consisting of 16 songs created from Johnny Cash's unknown poetry, lyrics, and letters set to music by an astounding array of contemporary artists including Chris Cornell, Ruston Kelly & Kacey Musgraves, Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Brad Paisley, Kris Kristofferson & Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Elvis Costello, and more.

For nearly 60 years, the words of Johnny Cash have reached across cultural, spiritual and ideological borders. He was not only a singer of great songs, but a teller of universal truths about justice, faith, love, and independence. It was in this spirit that Johnny Cash: Forever Words, was created.

Recorded primarily at The Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee and co-produced by John Carter Cash and Steve Berkowitz, Johnny Cash: Forever Words is also the musical companion to the best-selling "Forever Words: The Unknown Poems," a volume of Cash's unpublished writing edited by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon.

'Folsom Prison looms large in Johnny Cash's legacy, providing the setting for perhaps his definitive song and the location for his definitive album, At Folsom Prison. The ideal blend of mythmaking and gritty reality, At Folsom Prison is the moment when Cash turned into the towering Man in Black, a haunted troubadour singing songs of crime, conflicted conscience, and jail. Tailoring his set list to his audience of prisoners, filling up the set with tales of murder and imprisonment -- a bid for common ground with the convicts. Never before had his music seemed so vigorous as it does here, nor had he tied together his humour, gravity, and spirituality in one record. In every sense, it was a breakthrough, but more than that, At Folsom Prison is the quintessential Johnny Cash album, the place where his legend burns bright and eternal.

In February 1969, Johnny Cash was nearing the peak of his popularity ‰ÛÒ his At Folsom Prison album was a smash success - but he was nearly at his wildest in his personal life, which surely spilled over into his performance. All of this sets the stage for At San Quentin, that surpasses its predecessor and captures Cash at his rawest and wildest. Part of this is due to the shifting dynamic within his band. Without Luther Perkins, Cash isn't tied to the percolating two-step that defined his music to that point. No other Johnny Cash record sounds as wild as this. He sounds like an outlaw and renegade here, which is what gives it power. He sounds that way throughout the record, making it the case that this is the best Johnny Cash album ever cut.

Everybody Loves a Nut is the 23rd album by Johnny Cash, originally released in 1966. The album consists largely of humorous novelty songs.

Cash would reprise a number of the tracks on this album in later venues such as TV performances, and live versions of "Dirty Old Egg Sucking Dog" and "Joe Bean" would be featured on his later live album At Folsom Prison. Cash also performed "Dirty Old Egg Sucking Dog" a decade later during an appearance on The Muppet Show. Koncert V Praze (In Prague-Live) Vinyl

'Koncert V Praze was a rare example of a Western performer putting on a show behind the Iron Curtain in this case, the capital of Czechoslovakia, which had become a Communist state shortly after the end of World War II. Cash played to about 50,000 people over 4 shows that sold out in 2 days. Recorded in 1978, Koncert V Praze wouldn't be released in the country until 1983, when it was briefly pressed on the native classical label Supraphon. However many hardcore fans are only just discovering its existence now.

American musical icon Johnny Cash was at a career highpoint and in the middle of a successful tour of Scandinavia in 1971 when asked to star in his own concert special for Danish television.

Filmed before a small audience on a small sound set, 'Man In Black: Live in Denmark 1971' captures the essence of a Johnny Cash show of the era, showcasing performances with his touring companions - the Tennessee Three (his backup band) June Carter Cash, the Carter Family, Carl Perkins, and the Statler Brothers--on a setlist of hits, classics and songs-of-the-day including "If I Were a Carpenter" (Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash), the song that won the couple the 1971 Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Throughout his five decades in music, Johnny Cash was unwavering in his dedication to his sound and style. Starting with Sun Records in 1955 through his days at Columbia and beyond, Cash always knew exactly what he wanted to do and exactly how it should sound. Everything he did, all the music he created was definitively Johnny Cash. By 1980, the business of country music had changed to incorporate sounds that were incongruous with Cash’s. His signature blend of folk and that “boom-chicka-boom” beat was out of vogue amongst the slick string-laden “countrypolitan” sounds that had become popular. This shift left all-time greats like Cash in the odd place of being revered, but not selling albums. In one effort to enhance his commercial appeal, Columbia Records paired Cash with producer Billy Sherrill who was having major success with this new country sound. While Sherrill selected many of the songs, it was Cash’s trademark sound that dominated.

The Johnny Cash Children's Album (Vinyl)

'The Johnny Cash Children’s Album The Johnny Cash Children’s Album showcased a lighter side of The Man in Black. Released in 1975, this LP featured lighthearted songs like “Nasty Dan” (written by Sesame Street writer Jeff Moss and first performed by Cash on the classic children’s program), the original “I Got a Boy (and His Name is John)” (written about Cash’s only son, John Carter Cash, who contributes liner notes to this reissue) and “Old Shep,” famously recorded by Elvis Presley in 1956. Available on vinyl for the first time in more than 40 years, The Johnny Cash Children’s Album is good country fun for the whole family.
