Brooks & Dunn Reboot (Vinyl)

Reboot (Vinyl)

by Brooks & Dunn

“REBOOT” sees Brooks & Dunn team up with Kane Brown, Thomas Rhett, Brett Young, LANCO, Ashley McBryde, Brothers Osborne, Luke Combs, Midland, Cody Johnson, Jon Pardi, Tyler Booth And Kacey Musgraves on re-ignited versions of Brooks & Dunn’s biggest hits.

“What’s really intriguing to me is that we didn’t do any production meetings about how we might cut these things,” Kix Brooks says. “We kind of just went in, and it morphed in the process.”

“Each artist came at it from a different angle,” adds Ronnie Dunn. “When Jon Pardi walked in, he said ‘I’m in, but we’re not changing anything,’ and we didn’t musically, but his vocal speaks for itself.”

“REBOOT” pulls a string from Brooks & Dunn’s heyday to the here and now, feeling almost like a roadmap for where Country’s been, and where it’s going. It’s a showcase for not only the enduring appeal of tunes from ‘Brand New Man’ with Luke Combs to ‘Believe’ with Kane Brown, but also their impact on the current, anything-goes country landscape.

David Campbell BACK IN THE SWING (CD)

by David Campbell

Release Date: 26th April, 2019

David Campbell is one of Australia’s most popular and versatile entertainers. A proven television and radio host, he also headlines theatre, cabaret and concert performances, as well as being a multi-platinum recording artist.  David and Sonia Kruger are the popular hosts of the national Today Extra show for the Nine Network, as well as the beloved annual Carols by Candlelight telecast . For radio, David presents his own top rating, national weekend afternoon radio show on Smooth FM and in print, David is a regular featured columnist in Stellar, News Corp’s popular Sunday magazine.

David Campbell knew there was legs in the idea of a new swing album when he played a little known song called Make Love one night in Adelaide and watched the room go wild. Something repeated the next show. And the one after that.

“And every time I did it the dancefloor filled by the first or second chorus, even though they didn’t know the song,” he says of the Joe Cang number he discovered on Youtube. “It’s a feelgood song, and it’s modern and it’s new and it doesn’t feel like it’s come out of an LA factory”. Campbell, once more with the help of storied arranger and producer Chong Lim, and his on-stage musical director Joe Accaria, built Back In The Swing, around Make Love, determined to mix traditions with new ideas.

Over the past three and a half decades, Primal Scream have embraced everything from psychedelic pop to degenerate rock’n’roll; euphoric rave to industrial gloom. They have made records with George Clinton and Kate Moss, invited Mani of the Stone Roses and Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine into the fold, survived narcotic oblivion, personal trauma and the death of beloved guitarist Robert “Throb” Young, and captured the mood of the nation several times over. Throughout it all, they have always sounded likePrimal Scream. And they have always made great singles.

Opening with the jangly melodic rush of ‘Velocity Girl’, ‘Maximum Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Singles’ is a celebration of a vital catalogue of songs from a band who have always pushed the boundaries of their sound. There’s rock ‘n’ roll infused with gospel and soul in ‘Movin’ On Up’, the Stonesy strut of ‘Rocks’ and industrial-funk in the shape of‘Kill All Hippies’. And that freewheeling attitude never stopped, as evidenced by the anthemic garage-rock meets vintage R&B of ‘Country Girl’ and the creativity of the songs taken from their most recent album, 2016’s ‘Chaosmosis’.

Devin Townsend EMPATH (CD)

by Devin Townsend

Over the past few years, the success that Devin Townsend has slowly worked for has fortunately come with the power to control his own creative destiny.

On this album Devin has decided to see what would happen if all the styles that make up his current interests were finally represented in one place. To finally shake the fear of expectation, and just do what it is he was meant to do creatively, 'EMPATH', true to the name, is about allowing the audience a feeling for a variety of musical emotions. The musical dynamics represented on this single album are broad, challenging, and immense. To approach this sort of work with a long history of what makes heavy music ‘heavy’, allows this to be done with a type of power rarely heard.

A bold statement with massive production values and dynamic, uncompromised musicality. This is a statement about not only pursuing creative freedom in a conservative scene, but also trying to show that heavy music is truly a valid musical tool.

by Yo-Yo Ma

On March 8, Sony Classical will release a recording of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s cello concerto featuring Yo-Yo Ma and the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Salonen’s baton. Co-commissioned for Ma by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Barbican Centre, and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Salonen's cello concerto premiered on March 9, 2017 with Salonen himself conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Ma and the concerto then came to the New York Philharmonic on March 17, 2017, with then-Music Director Alan Gilbert conducting; Ma and Gilbert continued the premiere season with performances at London’s Barbican Centre and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie. This recording captures the live performance in Los Angeles on February 8, 2018.

The approximately 30-minute concerto includes scoring for electronics and begins with “a simple thought emerging out of a complex landscape. Almost like consciousness developing from clouds of dust,” in Salonen's words. The second, main movement follows with “slow cello arches...looped to create harmony from single lines.” This is followed by the third movement of music that is “often dance-like; sometimes gesticulating wildly, perhaps from the sheer joy of no longer having to do with clouds and processes.” Salonen concludes, “Finally the kinetic energy burns itself out gently, the rapid movement slows down, and the cello line climbs slowly up to a stratospherically high B-flat, two centimetres to the left from the highest note of the piano.”

2. Salonen Cello Concerto: II.
3. Salonen Cello Concerto: III.

Buckcherry WARPAINT (CD)

by Buckcherry

Ask Josh Todd about the inspiration behind Warpaint, Buckcherry’s eighth studio album – and indeed, the frontman’s goal in making music – and he’s got a ready response: “I want to connect with people, host the party, and give people a night they’re never going to forget,” Todd says. As he sings in Warpaint’s title track, “I wanna have fun blowing out your eardrums keep it rocking state to state.” The Los Angeles-based lineup has been doing exactly that since the 1999 release of their self-titled album. Hits including “Lit Up,” “For the Movies,” “Crazy Bitch” and “Sorry,” not to mention Grammy nominations, international touring and Platinum sales, have solidified Buckcherry’s rock ‘n’ roll bona fides.
