Ride Me Back Home is another incredible addition to Willie Nelson's legendary catalogue that finds him working once again with producer Buddy Cannon. Ride Me Back Home sits beside 2017's God's Problem Child and 2018's Last Man Standing as a trilogy of superior songcraft exploring ideas of mortality with wisdom, empathy and a winking love of life. Nelson and Cannon co-wrote a handful of songs but also call on their favorite songsmiths…great writers with great stories to tell: Sonny Throckmorton, Guy Clark, Mac Davis, Buzz Rabin. The result is a magical collection of tunes with emphasis on the lyric. Backed by an amazing band of Nashville gunslingers, Ride Me Back Home finds Willie Nelson making some of the most inspired work of his career.

Alongside his new compositions on the album and the title track (which Throckmorton co-wrote with his daughter Debby, Joe Manual & Lucinda Hinton), Willie pays musical tribute to a variety of pop and country songwriters and performers, covering Billy Joel ("Just the Way You Are"), Mac Davis ("It's Hard to Be Humble" with Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson) and a pair of songs by the late American country/folk artist Guy Clark ("Immigrant Eyes" and "My Favourite Picture of You," the title song from Clark's 2014 Grammy-winning Best Folk Album).

"With Willie Nelson's Ride Me Back Home, the artist rounds out a trilogy about mortality that began in 2017 with God's Problem Child and was followed in 2018 with Last Man Standing," observed American writer and music journalist Mikal Gilmore. "Ride Me Back Home, though, brings a different component of mortality into view: empathy.

Willie Nelson and Frank Sinatra are both defining avatars of American popular music. Hearing Willie’s freewheeling roadhouse rave-ups and Frank’s smoky, cosmopolitan songs, one may assume they sat on different sides of the fence—but they had an enduring friendship and great respect for each other's craft.

My Way, Willie Nelson’s new album out September 14th, explores his admiration and connection to Sinatra’s art and artistry across 11 fresh, intoxicating takes on songs made famous by the Chairman of the Board. Recorded in the tradition of 1978’s legendary Stardust and 2016’s Grammy Award-winning Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin, My Way is a warm and personal nod from one icon to another.

Like Sinatra, Willie is a vocalist who imbues every song with a myriad of impressionistic sonic signatures. “I learned a lot about phrasing listening to Frank,” Willie said in a 2018 interview. “He didn’t worry about behind the beat or in front of the beat, or whatever—he could sing it either way, and that’s the feel you have to have.”

Such is the spirit of My Way's smooth approach to timeless tunes like “Summer Wind,” "It Was A Very Good Year," “I’ll Be Around,” “Fly Me To The Moon,” “What Is This Thing Called Love” (cast as a duet with fellow Grammy winner Norah Jones) and, of course, the anthemic “My Way.” Add Willie’s stalwart backing band plus lush arrangements for full string and horn sections—all produced by Grammy winners Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings—and you’ve got an album that’s as cool as it gets.
