JOE SATRIANI AND 30 YEARS OF ‘SURFING WITH THE ALIEN’

Surfing With The Alien is the second studio album by American rock guitarist Joe Satriani, which would go on to be one of his most successful albums to date, helping to establish his reputation as a respected guitar prodigy.

Songs like ‘Satch Boogie’ helped to popularize the likes of shred guitar of the time whereas the likes of ‘Midnight’ utilizes two-handed tapping, reminiscent of Spanish finger style guitar. The artwork is taken directly from the first issue of the Silver Surfer comic book series.

Surfing With The Alien was unanimously praised from critics and performed exceptionally well, charting at number 29 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for 75 weeks, the longest run of any of his releases. The album was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 1989 Grammy Awards.
